Sensorless vector drive delivers dynamic response

The new TCF Series of sensorless vector drives provide OEMs with highly dynamic levels of transient performance, together with precise levels of motor control (down to 1Hz) and up to 200% motor rated torque. Although highly performing, the new drives have one of the smallest footprints on the market and offer one of the widest power ratings available (0.18-18.5kW) from a small drive. As a result, they are ideal for OEM applications, or for retrofitting in a broad range of winding, lifting and processing applications.

Designed for easy integration into any control panel, the contactor-style TCF drives are compact, robust and easy-to-use units.

They reduce panel space and wiring and equipment costs when compared to closed loop drive systems, and offer the simplified setup and operation required by OEMs to optimise efficiency and reduce costs in their machine building activities.

A further benefit for OEMs is the facility of the TCF Series for worldwide use, the drives offering supply voltages of 208, 240, 400, 480 and 590V AC on both 50 and 60Hz supplies.

This flexibility in supply is complemented by a comprehensive list of standard features to aid the OEM and drive user with setup and integration.

These include: four modes of operation, finger safe terminals, four methods of programming, isolated digital and analogue I/O, a Modbus RTU serial interface, and a UL and cUL approved thermal overload protection device, which helps to safeguard motor reliability and extend operating life.

Motor control centre improves supply

As part of a major plant expansion programme, Quest International has recently invested in a Sivacon motor control centre for its Menstrie site in Central Scotland. Quest, part of the ICI Group, manufactures yeast and yeast extracts that are used in whisky making and for food flavouring. In order to meet increasing sales demand, expansion was required in the production of yeast extract powders.

A critical part of the production process is a new fluidised spray drier, which went online in October 2002.

Following close consultation with design engineers from Siemens Automation and Drives in Leipzig, and assistance from UK engineers employed by Birmingham company I and M Controls, Quest chose a Sivacon 8PT motor control centre (MCC) to manage the operation of all the low-voltage switchgear and motors associated with the new spray drier.

In addition, the MCC controls the operation of a robot palletiser, and a biofilter system, used to remove odours from the exhaust gases.

Quest's own electrical engineers were heavily involved in the development of the specification of the MCC, which incorporates a number of novel features.

The design includes drawer units that can be withdrawn from the cabinet, specified by Quest to enable operation and maintenance to be carried out efficiently.
The concept behind Sivacon, which uses designs that have been developed by Siemens engineers in Leipzig married with the local knowledge of MCC fabrication and operation available from I and M Controls, enabled the customised design to be built and installed quickly.

Once on site, I and M Controls' engineers completed the installation of the MCC cabinets in just three days.

All standard control modules manufactured by Siemens are thoroughly type tested, ensuring reliability and safety.

The cabinets themselves have been designed to ensure that personnel and equipment are protected, while maintenance and component replacement can be carried out without interruption to the manufacturing process.

During the design phase, software tools are used to enable modifications and customisation to be carried out with input from all the Sivacon partners; Siemens in Leipzig, I and M Controls in Birmingham and the end user.

Unmanned Robotic Truck Wash Tunnels

With labor costs soaring and the quality of work ethic in the United States lacking we will need to have more robotic systems to do those jobs that most humans will not do. You should understand that this is becoming critical and is not an anti-union or worker sentiment, but rather an industry known choice, which is becoming more and more prevalent. In the truck washing business for instance it can take as many as 10-30 men for a 1-3 bay truck wash and that is a lot of folks. Still each truck takes about 20-30 minutes from the time it comes into the bay until it exits.

Washing equipment such as trucks without the use of people is possible and can be done, but it is not an "Easy" proposition to get it right. You have to know what you are doing and not allow equipment salesmen to baffle you with Bullshit, which they are all too good at. You see at the end of the day all that really matters is;

1.)Is the Truck actually clean

2.)Did you clean it without damaging it; the paint, the decals, the mirrors, wipers or some other component.

The rest is "water under the truck wash" if you understand the flow of thought here? The truck wash sector is going robotic like it or not. For those who claim that an all hand wash is better, well that maybe true today and for a few more years, but soon their will be no difference between a robotic truck wash or one done by a small team of humans, in fact the robotics will get incrementally better until, the humans can no longer compete in quality or costs. Think on this in 2006.

Robotics of Truck Washing

In the past one of the issues with automatic drive thru truck washes was that well, they did not work as well as one might think. There were and still are some issues with their ability to get the Trucks perfectly clean, which is the main objective. Sure they knock off most of the dirt and it is good enough for government work as they say, but for an independent truck driver with chrome and polished aluminum they leave a lot to be desired indeed.

Our company; The Truck Wash Guys in the past have forgone the automated truck washes as a major strategy. It is due to this reason of performance to adequately clean the trucks to perfection or near perfection that we had shied away from the concept of "Unmanned Truck Washes" the current technology is not quite there yet. Almost however, perhaps this year in fact we will have it. The Robotics of the future will make it so, very soon. And there is good reason for this as the labor cost increases and the quality of the workforce and work ethic are a critical component of the success of a truck washing business. And it appears it will be getting worse. For instance;

The Robotics of Truck Washing business are helping operators with the changing landscape of over regulation, labor law, health care costs and the cost of the labor itself, as well as the dummying down of society and the ability or work ethic of the labor to perform the tasks need to insure a quality wash. So think on this in 2006.

How Truck Washes Help Save Lives

Most people understand the importance of our transportation and distribution system in the United States. For those who don’t understand the importance; think for a second; “if you bought it, well then a truck brought it.” The words ‘keep on trucking’ may not mean much to you if you do not know someone who is a truck driver, but suffice it to say that if all the trucks stopped, people would run out of food on the shelves in a little less than one-week. They help our civilizations stay alive and thrive.

But with this monumental task of bringing and transporting all these goods to market you may not realize other aspects. For instance there are often microscopic things, which also travel around on truck; germs, bugs, bacteria, disease, etc. This is why trucks must be thoroughly cleaned after each use.

If we get into full-scale issues with a SARS, Bird Flu Pandemic or something wicked we must keep transportation and our nations distribution systems running full-speed. And those tucks must be sanitized after each use to protect the American People.

We know from studying "Truck Drivers" in other nations that they are huge spreaders of disease in other nations, such as AIDS, etc. They travel long distances and with them they move bio-material, not only on their trucks but in their own bodies. Everything from the Flu to Tuberculosis.

Did you know that because of Mad Cow and some other things of concern and they had special cleaning units to clean undercarriages and landing gear of aircraft coming over from the UK. And you have probably heard of similar type issues with regards to ships with the Ballast tanks unloading non-local species and screwing up eco-systems, just messes up everything. FEMA knows of this and is also aware of preparation issues, which need to be addressed. Truck washes are vital to both the wealth and the health of our nation. Think on this in 2006.

Automated Unmanned Truck Wash Systems

Who makes the best tunnel unmanned automated truck wash systems in the industry? There are several well-known companies, which do manufacture and install such systems. The reason why these are so popular is due to labor costs associated with cleaning trucks. Labor is of course the biggest cost in such an operation and with uncertain peak periods of demand, seasonality of weather and hours of operation the challenges to get everything to come together are immense indeed.

How would I know you ask? Well, I founded the Truck Wash Guys; www.TruckWashGuy.com and whereas we do not sell such units or franchise them, they have been a major competitor and so we have studied them to death. So, you ask who makes the best automated truck wash systems? Well I believe that Interclean Corporation indeed has the best units presently. If you are considering such as system Perhaps I may pass on this information to you; The contact is Oli Lamminen (734-975-2967) he owns Interclean and here is the information on our study of the Industry.

There are other old favorites in the Industry such as the Ryco Systems which many Municipal Fleets had put in decades ago, some still running today. The fact is you are going to have to do your homework to figure out which company and which equipment is best for your application and if these companies can service your needs in the area you are in. Think on this in 2006.

Hispanic American Trucks

What do you call trucks from Mexico which come into the United States and pollute the air and do not comply with air quality or EPA rules for trucks? What do you call a truck from Mexico, which is not mechanically sound and may have many equipment violations including faulty brakes? What do you call a truck from Mexico, which is a rolling violation and mirrors a portable junkyard?

Well, you do not call it a “Mexican Truck” says a think tanker recently on a major online Think Tank Forum, stopped by to tell the group that the term “Mexican Trucks” as that is a negative connation on Mexicans we are now told. Some on the Think Tank believe that this is completely a PC comment and they are not buying it. One think tanker replied back.

“I have nothing against Mexicans. I do however have something against most of these Mexican Trucks with faulty equipment, un-level playing field with regards to pollution controls and the safety of the American people, specifically a mom and her 3 kids in a mini-van cruising down a grade on an highway. I do not believe that they should have to pay with their lives for bad policy. And indeed, I am not politically correct, but I see your perspective. What would you like me to call these trucks coming over from Mexico?”

One think tanker suggested maybe we should call them; "Hispanic Trucks" or "Mexico Trucks." The critic of the “Mexican Truck” term offered only criticism with no solution. Meanwhile we have these trucks which are from Mexico which are dangerous, do not follow the rules and are an environmental issue.

The critic should give us a "Term" to use, and we will be glad to use it. This is kind of silly of critic Think Tanker Anthony don't you think? What term does he want us to use? "Mexican American Trucks" "Hispanic American Trucks" "Illegal Trucks from Mexico" "Environmental Mobile Disaster Trucks," "Smoke Bomb Trucks" or "Rolling Junk Yards," Let us know on that. Consider the PC of this in 2006.

Truck Canopy Advantages

If you do not want to spend a lot of money building a garage protecting your Truck or RV then you should consider a Truck Canopy.

Canopies are a low cost way of protecting anything from cars to boats and even tractors. These lightweight structures are made of a very light but durable material which can withstand any weather conditions. The great advantage of a canopy is that they come in all sizes. If you have a small pickup or even an 18 wheeler you will be able to find a canopy that will fit your needs. The most popular is the All Purpose 10’ X 20’ 8 leg canopy which creates a lot of opportunities for outdoor protection. The shelter includes a white, full-valanced cover and foot plates for stakes. Slip-fit connections make assembly painless. The durable frame is structured from 1 3/8-inch diameter, powder-coated steel tubing.

If you had a slightly longer truck then you may consider the 12 x 26’ Tandem Commercial Grade Canopy. This commercial-grade canopy provides you extra space for your shelter needs! At 12' wide, there is plenty of room for walking around a vehicle, and at 26' long, you could protect an extra-long Truck, RV, boat or position several tables for a family reunion in the shade. The 10-leg frame is constructed of 2-inch diameter, powder-coated steel tubing and features slip and connections for durability and easy assembly. The white cover is UV-stabilized, waterproof polyethylene. The price for a canopy of this size can range from $450 to $650. Good quality and size doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. The great thing about this canopy is that although its versatile to use for any occasion you could also rent it out to others wanting to use it for an outdoor wedding or party.

There are accessories that come with these canopies. You can either have the configuration in such a way that you just have the roof with the side legs showing. If you want a more enclosed look then you can opt for the side walls which will totally enclose your truck in instances where you need more protection from the weather, or just want to keep your vehicle out of site.

The price of canopies varies and this is usually in line with its size and the accessories that you may want. For a simple canopy like the one mentioned above you can expect to pay in the region of $150 to $350 but these can range up to as high as $1000 and over. There is usually no compromise on quality in the price range as all canopies are made to a very high standard.

The most important and convenient aspect of buying a canopy is that you can do it online. You can browser online stores and have your canopy delivered to your door for as little as $10. In most cases you will find that delivery is free depending on the size of your order.

Lift Kits - The Raised Truck Craze Gone Wild

There was a day when trucks were a working man’s vehicle and scratches were expected. Shells protected valuables and tonneau covers protected tools. Those days are over and truck enthusiasts are souping up their rides more than ever before. With the addition of popular movies featuring fancy cars and popular television shows that glorify plasma screens and ground shaking stereo systems, the custom truck rage is here to stay.

As a sign of manhood or personal taste, many truck owners decide to lift their rides for a performance altered appearance. Lift kits can actually be found online and can be installed on your truck in a do-it-yourself fashion. Some lift systems can be somewhat difficult to install, but after all, challenges are what get us men going and when we are determined, who knows what will happen.

The following bullet points are the benefits to installing a new suspension system with lift kit on your truck:

The sky’s the limit when you go high-profile with your truck or SUV! Lift Kits push ground clearance and aggressive looks to new heights, letting you conquer on or off-road obstacles with confidence. Lift Kit Manufacturers make custom parts that will fit your specific truck to a “T” to give you the look that you’ve been wanting. My lift kit was recently tested at an off road rally down near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and let me tell you - I didn’t get stuck in the dirt. Ground clearance was needed on the off road trails that we were on and the drool on my buddies faces proved that the style could easily make a grown man cry.

Hand Pallet Trucks

Pallet trucks are for moving pallets from one place to another. Pallet trucks not only make transportation of pallets easier but also ease loading and unloading while ensuring utmost safety. They can minimize time of transport considerably. Since the pallets can be rather heavy, pallet trucks need to be very strong and functional. Pallet trucks are generally used in industries like chemical and pharmaceutical factories, warehouses, food storage industries, retail stores, and others. Most pallet trucks can move loads of around 4,000 lbs.

Pallet trucks are being designed to suit all kinds of environments and terrains, including highly corrosive and unsanitary conditions. Some pallet trucks are being made from zinc, and stainless steel, and some are chrome coated and galvanized to resist even highly moist atmosphere like pharmaceutical and chemical factories. These are suitable for clean room, laboratory, wash down, and corrosive material handling applications.

There are different types of pallet trucks: low-profile pallet trucks, pallet trucks with scale (for weighing the load), big-wheeler pallet truck (for uneven floors and heavy loads), specialty pallet trucks (made of zinc or stainless steel for unsanitary environments), wheel-nose pallet trucks (for placing pallets closely in a row), ergonomic pallet trucks (for ease of operation), economic pallet trucks, ""Freight Saver"" pallet trucks, all-terrain pallet trucks (for any kind of terrain), foldable manual pallet trucks (light-duty trucks especially beneficial for going down narrow aisles, through doorways, or around tight corners), electric pallet trucks (with AC drive motor, battery pack, and regenerative braking system), and so on.

Some pallet trucks also have adjustable push rods, a wide turning radius, skin adaptors, and integral scales. There are some highly advanced pallet trucks that even contain a printer, LCD display, and a keypad with automatic tare functions that works on rechargeable batteries.

Used pallet trucks are also available. Pallet trucks can be ordered and bought online at exclusive manufacturer websites. The internet is a good source for information about pallet trucks.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Buying a Used Truck Via a Classifieds

If you are looking to purchase a used truck through the newspaper then there are several advantages to that line of thinking. It is no secret that the newspaper is one of the most popular venues to buy and sell automobiles. Since the time that automobiles became popular people have been buying and selling them between themselves and most the time through the newspaper as it was the easiest way to reach a large amount of people with a minimum of expense.

There are more than enough trucks available in the newspapers to suit anyone’s needs. This is due in part to the large amount of people who buy a truck and realize that it is not the right vehicle for them. This can work to your advantage. If the person tells you that they need to get rid of the truck because it is not right for them then the chance of getting a great deal is right there on the surface waiting for you to take advantage of it.

Another advantage of buying a truck through the newspaper is the price. Because newspaper ads do not cost large amounts of money, people are more than willing to offer a better price because they do not have a lot of over head to think about. The less it costs them to sell the truck the better the price they are going to offer.

Through the newspapers you have a good chance to view hundreds of trucks depending on the size of the newspaper where the ads appear. Newspaper ads are the first place that people turn when they need to sell a truck or car. You will most likely have the pick of pretty much any brand and model that you could ever want. This is a direct advantage over other forms of truck purchase that may be limited in one way or another.

Few people realize that newspapers are the place where people who are extremely desperate to sell their trucks list them for sale. They know that they are more likely to get an immediate response in the newspaper than anywhere else. If someone has died and left someone with a truck that they cannot use or afford to keep then they will most likely list it in the newspaper. This is a situation that can work to your advantage as these people are more likely to offer a great deal in order to unload the truck that they have no use for. Look for the words ‘must sell’ and call them right away. Make sure you get all the details of why they are selling the truck to be sure that they are not trying to scam someone with a sob story.

With a little patience you can easily use the newspapers to your advantage when looking for a used truck. Make a list of all the questions you wish to ask before making the calls to make the process go a little smoother.

There are certain disadvantages that you face when buying a used truck through a newspaper or personal meeting. With everything that goes with buying a used truck, you need to watch out for the other people more than the truck. One thing that people seem to forget is that the world is full of people who do not care about anyone but themselves. This can create a series of problems with buying a truck as you need to be on the constant alert to make sure that you are not getting scammed by anyone.

Being scammed by a private party is a very real problem that occurs in transactions of this type. It is not uncommon for a truck to break down a few days after you purchase it because something on the truck was doctored just good enough to get it by through the sale. It is very hard to recover from this as not all states have laws against such a thing. Even if the state does have a law, it requires large amounts of time in the court system to do anything about it. This can be a costly and time consuming event that may not produce any results in the end.

There are also occasions where the truck that is being sold turns out to be a stolen vehicle. This will not only get the person in trouble but it can also come back to bite you as it may be considered receiving stolen property and that is against the law in most states. Before purchasing any vehicle make sure that all of the numbers match to the title and registration. If there is any discrepancy then the police should be called to make sure that it is nothing more than an honest mistake on the person’s part or that of the state when the documents were created.

Purchasing a flooded out truck is another real issue that can happen with a private sale. This occurs when there has been a natural disaster somewhere and several hundred automobiles were damaged. Less than moral people will purchase these automobiles for pennies on the dollar, dry them out then re-sell them in another state. Eventually the effects of the water will create problems with the automobile and it will become worthless to the owner. These trucks are illegal to sell as they have been written off by the insurance companies. These trucks are fairly easy to spot among the private sales as they will be marked way under value and they will normally be the newest and nicest looking automobiles on the market. The really low price should be the first clue and then you can look under the hood and look for excessive rust on the firewall that is always a dead give away.

Discount Truck Tires

Truck Tires have to operate amongst the most strenuous of all environments, when one looks at the automobile sector. Since purchase of regular tires can be a costly affair, truck owners often opt for a cheaper alternative.

There are many necessary details which have to be kept in mind when one goes in for purchasing Discount Tires for Trucks. These tires must ensure smooth operability while catering to different loads across roads, and provide traction irrespective of weather. Tires for trucks come in a range of sizes and are designed to perform well in a wide range of temperatures.

Different techniques are followed before and after manufacture to ensure longevity of traction. The tire pressure is a very important parameter, and tire pressure should be kept at ideal levels in all the tires within a vehicle. If there is low air pressure in one tire, it puts undue strain on another, and thus the wear-and-tear rate is enhanced.

Regular servicing after every 35,000 miles ensures that the tires remain roadworthy for a long time. Depending on the usage requirements, some tire companies also reinforce load capacity. Speed ratings are also available. This can be used to augment the load-carrying capacity of the vehicle.

Trucks come in various sizes, and there is often some degree of variance between trucks used for ferrying passengers and those used to transport goods. The lighter trucks are often employed under tough operating conditions, like off-road travel and overloading. This puts added strain on the tires, which must be able to respond to varying quantities of load and road condition. Thus, the tires for light trucks often have an extra layer and\or a larger bead, with enhanced sidewall rubber to provide additional strength.

Types of Semi Trailers

If you are just starting out in the trucking industry, you will need to determine the type or types of available semi trailers. There are numerous types of semi trailers with various manufacturers. The type of cargo you will haul will determine the type of semi trailer needed. Specializing in one specific type of cargo will allow you to purchase a new or used semi trailer that will accommodate your needs.

A tanker trailer is used for hauling liquids and fuels. Milk and other similar dairy products are transported in tanker trailers. There are specific cleanliness and refrigeration requirements that will need to be known before moving this type of merchandise. The upkeep of this semi trailer is very important. Fuel is also transported in tanker trailers and usually ships to gas stations or truck stops. Tanker trailers can be more difficult to drive due to shifting liquids. The driver should be aware of how to drive these effectively before embarking.

Flatbed trailers are a very popular type of semi trailer and are quite versatile. These trailers can be used to haul heavy equipment, construction items and machinery. The merchandise can be loaded from the rear, sides or the top with the use of a crane. Drivers will need to be aware about how to secure the items for transporting safely and if there are any requirements for protecting the items from the elements. Use of tarps can assist in protecting the equipment. Loading, unloading and securing the items can be strenuous work.

Van semi trailers are another widely popular type of semi trailer that can be used to transport most types of merchandise. Adding a cooling unit to the compartment will allow for the transportation of perishable items. Most van trailers have rear loading doors and will need the assistance of a forklift to fill the container. Some van trailers have side doors which can add ease to the loading process. Shipments of food items will typically occur to grocery stores and warehouses.

Livestock trailers are used to move animals. They are designed to allow air to circulate, keeping the animals alive. There may be loading and unloading requirements for the driver as well as periodic checks to ensure they are upright and not trampled. Shipment may be to farms and ranches or to meat markets. Typical shipments are for cows, horses, sheep, and hogs.

Deciding on the type of cargo you prefer to haul will help determine the type of semi trailer that should be purchased. Semi trailers can be purchased new or used; however, used trailers are generally more affordable. There are a number of manufacturers available to choose from such as Great Dane, Wabash National, Fontaine, Fruehauf, Utility, Trailmobile, Wilson, Strick, Dorsey, Reitnouer, Lufkin, Stoughton and Dragon. Choose the make and model of the semi trailer that best suits your needs.

Used Pickup Trucks are Very Useful in Today's Society

Used pickup trucks are great for manual labor. While cars are limited in space and capability, used pickup trucks have the needed work space and are great to haul large objects and big equipment. Plus, used pickup trucks have truck beds that are built to endure the weight of heavy objects.

Used pickup trucks are also more practical for most people. The reason that I say this is because newer pickup trucks are getting to be more and more expensive and harder for the common worker to afford.

Now, I do not want to take away from the advancement in pickup truck technology. Over the past decade, we have witnessed trucks evolve into a practical automobile that is much more user friendly to different size people and more conducive to both genders.

However, with the advancement of trucks seems to come the increase in prices. Yes, I realize that is not the only reason but it seems to be a factor.

This is why I along with several other people, tend to think that used pickup trucks are needed now more than ever and with the growing number of internet users, finding used pickup trucks is becoming much easier.

Used pickup trucks are definitely a solid alternative. Plus, most trucks built recent years will include many of the newer features that have been installed to make trucks a more feasible automotive option.

These used pickup trucks will combine the hauling capacity of a truck and the luxury of an automobile.

He Said - Sell My Truck

My friend had been trying in vain to sell his truck in his local newspaper. After, spending way too much on advertising, he finally approached me and said, "will you help me sell my truck?"

I agreed to help him and we began to discuss the easiest way to do the job. I immediately said that if I were to decide to sell my truck the first thing that I would do is look online for a solution.

It would be easier to sell my truck online simply because there is a huge audience all across the country who desire automobiles such as new and used trucks.

We continued to talk and I said that when people search the internet, they are generally searching for a specific item or product whereas the newspaper is a hit or miss situation since the viewing audience is so spread out in their needs.

He said, "will it be hard to sell my truck on the internet since I've never done it before?" I told him that there were several online classified services that provided fairly easy instructions on how to post an advertisement.

Then he replied, "will it be expensive to sell my truck?"

Of course, I could not give him an exact quote on what it would cost him, but I did tell him he should go online and search google, yahoo, dmoz, msn, and the various search engines to find pricing on truck classifieds.

However, I did say that if I were to sell my truck online, finding a good web site to advertise my truck would probably cost anywhere from free to around a hundred dollars. It all depended on the web site, their options, and the number of people that would be exposed to my advertisement.
